-- It wasn't the fact that he cut into her babble about work. It was that he'd said Riza, and that was a name she didn't often hear him say. Lieutenant... that's what she was to him. She was his lieutenant, and he was her superior. That's how it had been since she made that promise to him what felt like so many years ago. To hear him say Riza made her pause a moment, taking in the situation. Him saying that was like saying knew that she was not just his lieutenant... but Riza. She was Riza to him, too. A person... the thought made her mind jump out of work mode. This wasn't a trick, some ploy to talk about something work related or tell her there was something sneaky she had to do. He just wanted to have coffee... that was all.
Feeling slightly embarrassed, she stopped stirring, taking a moment before looking up at him, a small smile on her face. "You have a point, sir" she said, with a nod. His words were still slightly work related, at least to her. She took it as she needed to be watching, protecting at all times in the event of anything. She also took it as an absence of a social life. It had dawned on her more and more recently that she didn't have much of one.
"Lately life has been Headquarters. Being wrapped up in all that paperwork can make a person forget that there's things outside of that" She took another sip and put her cup down, leaning back in her seat. "I'm glad you have an afternoon out, sir. You don't need to be stuck in that office all day. Its good for you to get out and enjoy yourself... healthy, even."

Her abrupt silence coupled with the distracted pause in stirring of her coffee led Roy to believe that she had been slightly embarrassed in some way. Although he didnt think it was anything to be embarrassed about, he felt a bit different himself, having called her Riza rather than Lieutenant as he normally did. It was strange, actually. Although he'd just told himself to get used to it...they were both civilians like this, after all, he still couldnt get over how different it felt.
Looking up from the drink he sipped when she spoke, he listened carefully. What she said was true - being so wrapped up in work (which, at this point in time, was hard to avoid because of the avalanche-sized influx of paperwork that had recently seemed to follow him everywhere) that it was easy to forget there actually was a city and a life to be had outside of the office.
"I'm glad you have an afternoon out, sir. You dont need to be stuck in that office all day. Its good for you to get out and enjoy yourself..healthy, even." He blinked in surprise and set his drink down. After a moment, he gave a small chuckle. "Im perfectly healthy, you know. I havent been sick in ages." he said, knowing that he was more or less beating around the bush she was pointing out, despite the fact he knew precisely what she meant.

-- Riza raised an eyebrow, looking ready to serve back the comment with a snarky or teasing one of her own, but she refrained. It would just turn into a battle of wits, anyways, and it wouldn't end because both were stubborn. They'd be there until midnight, until Riza finally gave in so she could sleep. She enjoyed her sleep.
"Yes. Let's hope you keep that up, sir" she said before taking another sip of her drink, "Even still its good for you. And I'm glad you're being social." He might as well be now. When he became fuhrer (yes, when) he wouldn't just be able to go out and get coffee. Gaining the superiority of such an honor also meant losing the privileges of the life of a civilian. She wanted him to enjoy himself while he could. "You should think of getting out more. I can work late nights when you need a break, just let me know in advance so I'm prepared."
Granted, he was known to go on his own outings every once in awhile. Sneaking off with women he met to various dates. Then she'd be stuck with the paperwork. Sometimes he'd go out with some of the guys for an evening, but these things didn't happen as often as she liked, considering he'd lose it all soon. Hopefully soon. The thought made her feel a bit bad for being so hard on him about his paperwork. "After you get this batch done you should take a short trip. Its been awhile since you've been on one."

Roy's eyebrows raised very slightly as he observed Riza's move in the same manner. His coal-black eyes. He had a feeling he knew what was going through her mind - she was debating if she should respond with some sort of smart or sharp comment, and be willing to face whatever sort of retort he came up with.
She was glad he was being social, huh? The slightest quirk of his lips threatened to pull his mouth into a smile. Did he really come off as that antisocial given his habits? That was a bit of curiosity that sat in the back of his mind now, but he didnt bother with it right now. After she finished speaking, he raised his free hand slightly. "Dont worry about covering for me..." he said with a slight shake of his head. "I wont simply take off work and dump you with whatever I've yet to finish."
Admittedly it was a bit of a surprise that she suggested taking a trip. A trip, huh? he wondered. But where would I go? Theres nowhere I have a desire to go...besides to the top.. He knew she knew that just as well as him. Was that why she was suggesting it, possibly? He knew that once he reached the top, certain luxuries he had now but rarely (comparatively speaking) utilized would be out of his grasp forever. She was just looking out for him.
Giving a small smile and a shrug before sipping his drink again, he responded. "....I might wind up taking your advice in the relatively near future, Riza..." he said. Although he meant sometime within the next year or two as 'relatively near', it was still something, right?

-- She was hardly surprised at his comment. Its what he did anyways, whenever he had a date. Now that she thought about it, Roy wasn't exactly anttisocial... andhe got out quite often whether she liked it or not. She just wished he'd do something other than hit on women and go on dates... do something more productive with his time out. He never really settled on one anyways, just left them starry eyed and swooning, ready to do his bidding at any time. Why didn't he read or something? 'Because that's not Mustang' she said to herself, and had to smile a bit at the thought. She didn't exactly approve of all his actions... but it was simply how he was. And she wouldn't like him any other way.
Suddenly embarssed she'd drifted off into her own thoughts, she launched quickly into another calm, yet spastic from her side, blabber. "Well that's what I'm there for, isn't it? Its not that I mind in the slightest, it would be better if we organized your times out better, or you told someone more in advance so I could plan work accordingly..." Realizing she was drifting towards work speech, she paused a moment, looking up to him. "A... trip would be good for you. Maybe to the countryside? Resembool would be nice, we could visit Ed and Alphonse. Its peaceful, people we know are there. We can start planning around a date, take a week or so off. I mean... we plan, you can go, and I'll hold up fort..."
Her mind kept dodging back to work, as if avoiding something. She didn't usually have a problem talking to Mustang, but they didn't talk like this often, as civilians. She was sure it was just programmed into her system, since they worked so much together.

"Well that's what I'm there for, isn't it? Its not that I mind in the slightest, it would be better if we organized your times out better, or you told someone more in advance so I could plan work accordingly..." He sipped the remains of his drink before placing his cup in the small saucer it came with and pushing it to the side. She was verging on slipping into the work state-of-mind, if she wasnt already there. She's the one that should take a vacation, not me...[/] Roy mused quietly, wondering if she would view it as too bold to suggest something like that.

Preventing a small smile from coming across his face, he looked up at her once more. "A trip might not be a bad idea for you, either, Riza..." he said, hiding the suggestion he made within the statement. "If I take some time off, you certainly should..." he said, raising an eyebrow slightly.
"It doesnt make sense for you to have to keep working while I take some time off." he said, swallowing as he considered making another suggestion. "When Im planning, you should be planning your own trip as well..."

-- To that, she could only look at him a moment, then closed her eyes, trying to think before completely rejecting the idea. She would feel almost as if she was betraying her promise to him if she took some time off, so impulse had her ready to combat the idea. But she had learned over time that sometimes, it wasn't good to go on first instinct, especially when discussing something with Roy Mustang. He had his reasons for everything. He saw things and predicted happenings that other people couldn't see... he had a certain gift for it. She had learned that listening to him and actually taking in the things he said was crucial.
Not that this was as big of a deal as, oh, a coup d'etat, but she might as well start applying it with the small things too. After a deep breath, she looked up, expression calm. "We'll see our workload during that time, but I'm not making any promises sir. If I am able to have a vacation for myself during that time I will make sure I can monitor things here for you, so you have nothing to worry about..." She took a moment to collect her thoughts, then tried her idea about Resembool again. She had wanted to go for the past year, see Ed and Alphonse and everyone. He must have felt the same way.
There was a break in the conversation, and she raised her mug to take a sip, only to find that it was empty. Slightly embarrassed that she hadn't noticed it, she pushed the cup away and sat back again, folding her arms. "... I'm glad we did this, sir. This coffee outing. It was nice." Since things like this never happened, it was essential to Riza that she showed her appreciation. Hopefully it didn't sound like a suck up, like she was underhandedly asking for it to happen again. Not that she was at all. It had only slightly occurred to her as a thought he might have, for some strange reason, a thought that was rare but could possibly... Tearing away from her rambling thoughts, she gave a small, rather genuine smile. "Thank you for inviting me, sir."
