Alphonse Elric was born on 8 October 1900 as the second son to Trisha Elric and Van Hohenheim. From a young age, he idolised his older brother, Edward, who, unfortunately, didn't always feel the same. It took a few years before Edward stopped being annoyed at everything his little brother did; there was a point where Al couldn't speak to his brother without being hit by him. However, by the time their father left - unbeknownst to them, to help save the world - (they were about three and four at the time), the two boys got along very well. To cheer their obviously upset mother up, Edward and Alphonse began teaching themselves alchemy, because it always seemed to bring a smile to their mother's face. Their mother's death a little over a year later only served to bring the two boys closer. Distraught and lonely, Edward and Alphonse decided to bring their mother back to life. The boys tried to find an alchemist to train them. During a horrible storm, they found Izumi Curtis, who prided herself on being a "housewife", but was, to their shock, a master alchemist. The two boys begged Izumi to teach them, and, after some words from Pinako Rockbell, the houswife/alchemist relented. Their training was, in one word, torturous. They were first told to survive for a month on a desert island, and, afterward, were expected to train both their bodies and their minds at the same time. By the end of their apprenticeships, the two boys knew a lot more about alchemy than they could have learnt on their own. Satisfied, once they returned home, they began researching human transmutation in earnest. They finally decided to attempt it when they were eleven and ten. It was, to put it bluntly, a disaster. Alphonse lost his entire body (only managing to stay in the human world by Edward bonding his soul to a nearby suit of armor), and Edward lost his left leg (and, to save Al, his right arm). Panicked, Al, now in the form of a suit of armor rather than a ten-year-old boy, tried to bind his brother's wounds before running next door to the Rockbells, who were like family, and automail engineers (and Winry's parents had been doctors). Throughout the next year, Edward was fitted with automail for his arm and leg. Unfortunately, there was nothing that any of them could do to get Al's body back at that time. To try to make amends with his brother (not that Al blamed him; Al had participated in the human transmutation just as much as Ed had), Ed joined the military to try to find a philosopher's stone to regain their original bodies. It took them years, but, finally, on the Promised Day, Alphonse managed to get his body back from the Gate - though it was malnourished and weak - and Ed managed to get his arm back. After some recuperating in Central, Alphonse and Edward returned to Risembool to Winry and Pinako, who were family to them (and, as Al tried to hint to his ridiculously thick brother, would probably be family in a legal sense soon. Unfortunately, Edward has yet to admit that he's in love with Winry). Many apple pies and stews later, Alphonse is finally well enough to travel. He and his brother want to learn all about the different sorts of alchemy that exist in the world, and Al wants to go to Xing first, due to his interest in alkahestry, his friendship with Ling (the Emperor), and his friendship with Mei Chang (a princess). As for his armor, Alphonse had it melted down to be used to automail so that he could help others. He had no desire to keep it after all that he went through, and opted for helping other people in the end. FACE CLAIM. alphonse elric of fma ROLEPLAY SAMPLE. In retrospect, Alphonse thought, this probably wasn't a good idea. Not that he could have told Izumi Curtis no – no one could tell Izumi Curtis no. He was sure that it was written somewhere in the fundamental laws of the universe – do not cross Izumi Curtis or tell her no in any way, shape, or form. Even so… he wasn't sure that he could put up with Alfons and Wilhelmine being so… couple-y much longer. Sure, okay, Izumi and Sig were probably worse, and he had Mei, who had decided to come with him for spring break. That didn't mean that Alphonse wanted to see his best friend sucking face the whole week. When Alfons wasn't with Wil, he was grinning like an idiot and talking about her incessantly – though, Alphonse reminded himself, this probably came with the territory of having a newlywed friend. (Even if it had been three months since their wedding…) To make matters worse, somehow Alphonse and Alfons had been given the task of baby-sitting Elysia Hughes and Selim Bradley, respectively, for five days while their parents were in Vegas. (Oh god, what were Ed and Winry getting up to?) Elysia wasn't hard to handle. She was cheerful and friendly, and always willing to help out. Selim, on the other hand, was quiet and stand-offish – and would only speak to Alfons and Elysia, and even then, only in (perfect) German. There was something wrong with that kid, Alphonse was sure.
